Your compass points towards the Earth's northern magnetic pole, but that's not actually at the physical north pole of the Earth. This is a spot that roams around year by year, and it's normally located in Canada. But magnetic north is slowly drifting towards Russia's Siberia, and scientists haven't known why. But thanks to data from ESA's Swarm satellite, we now know that it has something to do with two competing magnetic plumes inside the Earth.
