ESA's Gaia mission is shaping up to be one of my all-time favorite spacecraft, deluging us with its discoveries about the Universe. Not only has it helped map out over a billion stars in the Milky Way, but it has also told us some brand new things about our galaxy. We've learned just how many smaller dwarf galaxies have already fallen into the Milky Way's hungry maw, how a galactic collision might have led to the formation of the Sun, how the galaxy's spiral arms differ from the rest of the Milky Way, and more.
